My research
What is the problem? Why is it hard?
Cost estimation (CE) today focuses on models and tools. In reality cost estimation is more complex since human, social, and organizational (HSO) factors largely affect the produced estimates.
How is the problem solved today? What are the current limitations?
Simple estimates are used as input to and affected by negotiations during project start-up and together with actuals often misreported in post-mortems.
What is my main idea? Why can it succeed?
Focus on HSO factors to understand the complex context and uses of CEs. More realistic picture of CE and SE in large organizations.
What is the impact of my research?
Better understanding of real-world CE and re-focus of research to produce actionable knowledge in the area. Analytical methods developed also potentially useful for analyzing human factors in SE in general.
